Welcome to Cool Canvas.
The Art of Development!

With the Summer holidays on the way and the warm weather approaching us, there's no better time than now to plan a project with Olly at Cool Canvas.

Our most recent projects, at St. Stephen's School in Kearsley and Highfield Primary School in Farnworth, are Insect Hotels. These have proved very successful with both children and teachers alike!

Spanning over a full day, the children begin the project with a workshop to discover all of the insects and wildlife in their area. This aspect of the project is supported by our Ecologist Gary Harrison, who shows the children how to respect nature, and what creatures live in what habitats.

Gary has a degree in Ecology and has previously undertaken projects for Manchester City Council and environmental work in Central America before joining us at Cool Canvas, 'Children learn to respect mini beasts more when they understand about them and their environments; I have teaching techniques that engage the children and teachers in a fun and interesting way.'

Olly works with the children to build an Insect Hotel from various provided materials which attracts local insect life and teaches the children about the correct environment for each individual species.

Soft cover books are then available of the project which can be supplied to parents, teachers and the children themselves as a souvenir from the project.

Similar projects include:

Dragon's Dens (investigating Dragonflies and Damselflies)

Bee Base (Different types of Bee)

Hedgehog Hide (Attracting Hedgehogs)
